COSTA RICA TANGO RETREAT

A Journey Through Tango, Nature, and Self-Discovery

The Costa Rica Tango Retreat was created from a simple idea: to reconnect with ourselves through nature, using tango as a tool and a vehicle for self-discovery.

This is not a traditional tango retreat.

You will not come here to dance milongas every night, to perform, or to show how well you dance. Tango will not be the entertainment.

You will not need to impress anyone. You will not need to look a certain way, dance a certain way, or prove anything to anyone.

The invitation is much simpler — and much deeper:

To connect with yourself.

To listen to your body.
To share experiences with the group.
To observe what happens when you give, when you receive, when you lead, when you listen, and when you allow yourself to be vulnerable.

The Masculine and Feminine Within Us

One of the main themes of this retreat will be exploring the masculine and feminine energies within ourselves.

Not as two separate identities, and not as something defined by gender.

We will explore them as different expressions of the same human energy.

There are moments when we need to act, propose, support, and give. There are other moments when we need to listen, receive, allow, and respond.

And very often, after receiving, we give again.

Tango gives us a beautiful and very clear way to experience this exchange through the body.

Instead of only talking about these ideas, we will feel them.

Our Daily Journey

Each morning will begin with yoga, designed around the same principles we will explore throughout the retreat: awareness, balance, giving, receiving, strength, softness, and presence.

After breakfast, we will work together as a group.

Through tango exercises, we will explore these energies first within our own bodies and then in connection with another person.

We will use the roles of tango as a way to investigate this exchange:

I give.
I receive.
I respond.
I give again.

After lunch, there will be free time to enjoy Costa Rica, connect with nature, rest, explore, or simply do nothing.

In the evening, we will come together for dinner and an open práctica. The práctica is not about performing or dancing socially. It is simply another space to process, explore, and integrate the work of the day.

This Is Not a Week of Entertainment

This experience can be intense.

It asks for curiosity, honesty, and vulnerability.

At times, you may encounter your own discomfort. Instead of immediately moving away from it, we will use it as an opportunity to listen and discover something about ourselves.

My work will be to guide you through this process, step by step, with exercises that help you recognize these energies within your own body and then experience them in relationship with others.

Tango becomes a mirror.

It can show us how we give, how we receive, how we listen, how we control, how we let go, and how we connect.

Come Without the Costume

You will not need high heels.

You will not need elegant tango clothes.

You will not need makeup.

You do not need to arrive looking like a “tango dancer.”

In fact, part of the invitation is to slowly remove those expectations and stereotypes.

Come comfortable.

Come curious.

Come willing to listen.

We will use nature, the group, the body, and tango to search for a more honest and authentic way of connecting — first with ourselves, and from there, with another person.

This is not about becoming a better-looking dancer.

It is about discovering what tango can teach us when we stop trying to be seen and begin to truly feel.
